With a key interest in exploring the more challenging sides of life, Jack got into writing when he taught himself guitar in his late teenage years. Within 5 years he had over 10 songs performed on BBC Introducing, which led him to becoming a BBC supported Artist. Jack then, in a challenge to broaden his writing ability, studied a masters at the University of Leeds, which led to working with Opera North, Yorkshire Playhouse and Amplified Theatre, as well as being in the process of writing a novel set to be completed by 2021. He’s also been nominated for a rising star in Yorkshire award, and his script, ‘Scarecrow’ was nominated by The Short Film Club for the Top Short Screenplays of 2020.’

Jack’s inspiration for creativity and supporting those who are struggling, started when he suffered grief at 14 years old when his father died of cancer. This setback created his drive to write about the difficult side of life, with BBC Introducing presenter Alan Raw, describing his music as, “Just a guy and his guitar, telling deep and thoughtful stories through song, and I love it.”

Following a difficult period of grief and struggles, Jack inherited his grandad’s guitar and taught himself how to play the guitar, how to write songs and how to sing by listening to Bob Dylan songs and his dad's old Beatles vinyl records. After Jack started working full-time, he then funded himself at the University of Leeds to study a creative masters that could open his network, inspire, and discipline his writing through different types of media.

Outside of writing, Jack is a keen runner having raised thousands of pounds for cancer and bereavement related charities, including completing the London Marathon in 2 hours and 52 minutes whilst raising over £2000 for Winston’s Wish charity. His best 5k is 15 minutes, 10k 33 minutes, 10 mile 56 minutes, half marathon 1 hour 13 minutes and marathon 2 hours 52 minutes.

Jack idolises writers such as Bob Dylan, J.D Salinger and Stephen King, and hopes to continue to progress in his writing career to make a difference to those in need.
